Chasing a target of 180 runs for victory in Sydney, the Netherlands managed to score only 123 runs, losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Tim Pringle scored 20 runs for the Netherlands. Shahriz Ahmed remained unbeaten on 16, while Bass de Leeds and Max O’Dowd were dismissed for 16.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin took 2 wickets each for India.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, India scored 179 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
3 Indian batsmen completed half-centuries. Opener KL Rahul got out for 9 individual runs but another opener Rohit Sharma scored 53 runs. He hit 4 fours and 3 sixes.
With his third six against the Netherlands, Rohit became the Indian player to hit the most number of sixes in the T20 World Cup. He left behind Yuvraj Singh who hit 33 sixes.
Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 62 and Suryakumar Yadav on 51 in the match against Netherlands. Kohli hit 3 fours and 2 sixes and Yadav hit 7 fours and 1 six. Kohli did well in the last match against Pakistan as well.
Fred Kalasen and Paul van Meeckeren of the Netherlands took a wicket each.
