A secret report by the Nepali government has claimed that China has tried to build a permanent canal in Nepali territory. The report states that the Chinese side will try to control the water source in the Kit river area of Humla, which borders the two countries, in the long run, so it needs to be protected and addressed diplomatically.

As per BBC Nepali news report also said that the Chinese side had laid wires on the Nepalese territory from Kit River to Karnali River and it should be removed immediately.

But China always said that there is no border dispute with Nepal.

Replying to a question at a press conference held after the news of the border issue with China was published, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Spokesperson of the Government of Nepal and Minister for Communications and Information Technology said.

In this regard, we make the official opinion public by studying the reality at the appropriate time, not on the basis of reports, but on the basis of reality.

Whether our borders are with India or China, if there are any problems along the border, we will solve those problems diplomatically. And the government is always trying to prevent these problems from happening.

What’s in the report?

The government led by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had given the responsibility to the seven-member study team headed by the then Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Jayanarayan Acharya to identify the problems from Limi Lapcha to Hilsa in Namkha village under Humla district and submit a report with solutions.

The report prepared by the committee after more than three weeks is still kept secret. The study team was formed amid controversy over a building China had built near the Limi Lapcha area.

The study team was formed amid controversy over a building China had built near the Limi Lapcha area. The study team also pointed out that there are many problems at the border due to the Chinese side.

The report states, “The Chinese side has laid wires up to the Multiple of Kit Danda and Kit Khola above Pillar No. 5 (2) from the border pillar No. 6 (1) on the south side of Nepal-China Boundary Pillar No. 5 (2) and on the north side east of Kit Khola. The cable has been extended to the Karnali river. “

As the border between the two countries is mentioned in the protocol from the border column number 5 (2), the territory belongs to Nepal. But the Chinese side seems to have laid wires on Nepali territory.

In addition, China has tried to take the water of Kit hill from the Kit River, which is about 145 meters above the Nepalese border, by making it a permanent town.

As the Chinese side tries to control the water source in the long run, it seems necessary to protect it and address it diplomatically.

The report also present a picture of the Chinese side preparing the canal and filling up the constructed sewer.

It is stated in the report that they understood that the entire excavated area was covered again two days before the arrival of the Nepali study team.

The report points out that one of the two CCTV cameras installed by China in the area has been installed in Nepali territory.
