One lakh fine for keeping cultivable land barren for three consecutive years

Keeping cultivable land barren will attract a fine of up to one lakh rupees. The Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal has approved the land use rules and has made arrangements to impose a fine of up to one lakh rupees on those who keep the land barren.

The regulations have made it an offense to keep classified lands barren for three consecutive years except in uncontrolled circumstances. A fine of one lakh rupees shall be imposed for such offence.
