The CPN-UML has left the government and has now decided to remain in the opposition.
As per the decision of the Secretariat meeting held at Central Headquarters Chasal on Monday, eight UML ministers submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. Since the secretariat meeting also withdrew its support to the government, the UML has now become the main opposition party.
Prime Minister Prachanda had put constant pressure on the UML to relinquish power. Prachanda, who is creating an atmosphere for the UML to relinquish power through several decisions one after the other, postponed the visit of Foreign Minister Dr. Bimla Rai Paudyal to Geneva on Sunday itself.
The UML made it a matter of prestige to postpone the visit of Minister Paudyal, who was preparing to go to Geneva to attend the UN Human Rights Council meeting. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, who led the government from the UML, spoke to Prime Minister Prachanda about this on Sunday.
But a leader says that Prime Minister Prachanda gave him the option of leaving the government.
